Vinum Africa Cabernet Sauvignon 2007
One of the things I love about wine is the different regions around the world in which it is grown. This Vinum Africa is from a region that I have to say that I have not had enough from. This Vinum, grown from two selected vineyards, the larger one located on the footslopes of the prestigious Helderberg Mountain and the other on the heights of Devon Valley. The Helderberg vineyards facing the ocean in a South-Easterly & South-Westerly orientation whilst the Devon Valley vineyard faces South and South-Easterly, also on the Coastal side of Stellenbosch. This means that both get ample sun and ample breeze from the ocean.
The result is a wine that is deep, shiny cherry hue and smooth, rich spicy nose that portray the story accurately about where the taste will be. It showed individual flavors, layered structure & generous fruit. I found tobacco, blueberry, spiciness, cherry and mocha in the taste. Just a good balanced delivery.
I found the ending of this wine to have a bit of earthiness in it. It wasn’t bad at all. Napa Cabernet drinkers need to realize before starting into this bottle that it is a bit different. Variety is very good in the wine world.
This bottle was a bit harder for me to run down, but if you get the option, I would recommend it if you want to try a Cabernet that is a bit heavier and a bit more earthy.
